CONTROLS,  RALLY ROADS,  SPEEDS,  and  INSTRUCTIONS

  •   Open (8), Closed (1), and DIY (7) Timing Controls will be used.

  •   Passage (Pumpkin) Controls will be used to monitor visits to The Great Pumpkin.

  •   Out Markers will be used at Open and Closed Controls.

  •   Odometer zeroed at all Out Markers.

  •   Most rally roads are paved with less than three (3) miles of unpaved.

  •   Assigned speeds are moderate;  liberal use of pauses, free zones, and transit zones.

  •   Numbered Route Instructions are frequently referenced to Official Mileages.

  •   Seven (7) Lettered Route Instructions (LRIs) will be used.   The official LRIs appear in the Route Instructions, but

an additional copy of the LRIs will be provided on label stock for those wishing to use that format for the LRIs.

  •   Map Zone -- One of the DIY legs in the morning route will use course-following instructions presented in the Route

Instructions in the form of a straight-line map (sometimes called a stick map).    The description of the straight-line

map and an example of its use are presented in the General Instructions.   The straight-line map is drawn to scale

and 'rulers' are provided in the General instructions to aid in conversion of  map-inches to rally-miles.

Peppermint Patti considers this Map Zone as an exercise in Advanced Descriptive Geometry, and views it

             with appropriate disdain!

  •   Control Instructions are issued on Control Slips.  With one exception that is explained in the General Instructions,

Control Instructions are used only to 1) zero the odometer at Out Markers, and 2) begin DIY legs.

  •   GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS will be mailed to the driver for entries received by September 27, 2004.

Pre-registration is strongly recommended in order to receive the GENERAL

       INSTRUCTIONS prior to the event.
